Description
Offered from a former teaching collection, and from the celebrated Lower Carboniferous; 'Konservat-lagerstatte' of Mazon Creek, near Coaltown, Illinois, is a small *(1.5cm dia) but fine and essentially complete example of the enigmatic Cycloid arthropodAmericlus (Cyclus) americana
(Packard)
Typically preserved in a ciderite nodule, this curious arthropod, which some believe to be a Copeopod, may have existed as a parasite on larger organisms in the coal swamps of eastern North America. They are one of only a handful of paleozoic arthropods to survive the end -Permian mass extinction, and persist until the Cretaceous Period.
Altogether, a remarkable legacy of early Carboniferous life that may prepare further with modern air tools. Matrix approx.2cm diameter.
Great price for a fine aquatic carboniferous arthropod from a world famous locality..........
