During the Great Depression, John Paul Getty picked up the Pacific Western Oil Corporation, a holding company with large oil reserves.
He then, in 1953, obtained control of the Mission Corporation - which had major holdings in the Tidewater Oil Company and Skelly Oil Company.
These three companies anchored Getty's portfolio of assets, along with the Getty Oil Company, which was more than 80 percent owned by Getty.
In 1967, Getty merged the Tidewater Oil Company and the Mission Development Company into the Getty Oil company.
This piece contains a printed signature of J. Paul Getty as the company President.
