Maneki Neko made by Toko Kakinuma, a traditional craftsman. It is a beckoning cat with a very cute lively expression. The details are carefully crafted, and you can feel the unique texture of the wood grain.
[Beckoning cat] Since ancient times, it has been favored by many Japanese people as an auspicious figurine that brings good luck, thousands of customers, and prosperous business. Cats raising their right hand are said to invite good luck, and cats raising their left hand are said to invite people (customers). In Feng Shui, the meaning differs depending on the color, and it is said that gold has the meaning of "fortune", white has the meaning of "fortune", black "prevents evil and illness", and red has the meaning of "love".
[Traditional craftsman, Toko Kakinuma] A traditional craftsman born in Arakawa-ku, Tokyo in 1948. Since studying under his father, Toko Kakinuma, in 1974, he has devoted himself to making Edo Kimekomi dolls. We are building a new Toko brand with a style of constantly looking at the "now of the times" and working on innovative works while learning unique techniques such as Raden inlays and colored double-layered wood-grained dolls and striving to improve the techniques.
[Kimekomi] It is so called because a thin groove is carved in the folds of the costume and the boundary of the piece of cloth, and the cloth is "textured" there. Its origin is the Kimekomi doll, which was born in Kyoto in the Genbun era (1736-41) about 270 years ago, and the technique of making the doll was transmitted to Edo, and the "Edo Kimekomi doll" was born.
