    Description

    Ampyx cf. priscus
, is a Lower Ordovician trilobite from Ait Zolli, Draa Valley, Morocco.
    Ampyx
is noted for its three prominent spines on the head shield - one from each free cheek and one extending from the glabella.
The body of the Ampyx (excluding the spine measurements) is 0.88 inches long, from the tip of the rostral spine to the tips of the cephalic spines, the animal measures 2.3 inches long. It is 1.1 inches wide at its widest. The entire plate measures 4.55 by 3.55 by 0.65 inches.
There is a repair running through the middle of the rostral spine/ tip of cephalon.
In the trilobite- collecting world this is not a detriment. Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks- and the specimen often gets broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. And if one is found, they usually are sold for a premium amount. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure.
All of my fossils are guaranteed authentic and have been legally obtained.
