Here is a very unusual arthropod. This is either a complete Branchiocaris, a phyllocarid, or a classic Waptia. Phyllocarids are among the lesser known crustaceans. They are distinguished by a rather large carapace, hinged at the top, which sheltered the anterior part of the body. This striking specimen displays the carapace and body very nicely. The distinct fossil contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix plate. This is a very fine example of this strange Burgess Shale-like arthropod from the Middle Cambrian trilobite beds of Utah.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this specimen.
