    Description

Clevenger Moon & Star Pitcher Ruffled rim South Jersey glass in Clevenger glass book
Have you ever wanted to own a piece that appeared in a book? Here's your chance!
From its founding in 1930, to its closure in 1999, the Clevenger Brothers Glass Company of Clayton, NJ was known to produce hand blown glass that could fool the experts, blowing classic reproductions of early American South Jersey glass. Among the Clevenger’s output were over a hundred different mold-blown designs.
Offered here is a Moon & Star Pitcher made in a green color glass. This design was originally offered as a lamp fount in the circa 1950 catalog, then later modified for use as pitcher or vase.
This pitcher is in excellent condition, stands 6¼ inches tall and has a pontil mark on the base. It has an unusual ruffled rim, one of the few pitchers I’ve seen with this decoration. This specific piece was made by glassworker William Stout Bowers, who worked at Clevenger Brothers from the late 1950s until May 1966. (Identifiable by his handle attachment, much like a signature.) It does have the CB initials on the base, one of the few designs with the initials applied while the factory was under Clevenger family ownership. Bowers in fact became a co-owner of the factory by marrying Allie Clevenger’s widow Myrtle.
This exact piece appears in Figure 730 on page 327 of
