And now, a few words of our own.
We’re gratified, but not surprised, by the
reaction of the motorcycle press to the new
Yamaha XS750.
Beneath the dazzling new red lurks a
sizzling new red line. 9000 RPMs of sizzle,
to let you ride in a style to which you may be
unaccustomed: faster than all get out.
To achieve that
kind of performance,
we did some interest-
ing things to our
double-overhead-cam,
four-stroke triple
this year.
We enlarged the
air box and incorpo-
rated newly-designed
“Type D” Mikuni carburetors for better air/
fuel mixture and more efficient combustion.
We pepped up the cam timing. And added
Yamaha’s exclusive Transistor Controlled
Ignition, which regulates the firing of the plugs
electronically. No mechanical breaker points.
But even with its increased power and
response, the 750 engine is as smooth as
they come. A quality no less apparent in our
five-speed, constant mesh transmission
and shaft drive.
No other shaft drive works quite like ours.
A set of spiral bevel gears and a constant
velocity u-joint produce a smooth, even power
transfer. The entire system is enclosed, so
maintenance is minimal. And there’s none of
the torque reaction that plagues other shaft-
driven motorcycles.
Our new three-way-adjustable front forks
add comfort and handling to a machine
already noted for comfort and handling. And
the slim styling of the bike itself makes lean-
ing into turns a thrill rather than an adventure.
All told, the XS750 is one heck of a
motorcycle. And those aren’t just our words.
